Katherine Newton's Instagram Story Sparks Avengers Doomsday Rumors

Katherine Newton might have leaked her role in Avengers Doomsday by wearing an official crew hat, sparking casting rumors.

Oh boy. You know somewhere Kevin Feige is calling a hit squad. You think you're the only superhero in the world? That's right. While Marvel Studios has been slowly rolling out the full roster for their upcoming big crossover event, Avengers Doomsday, that hasn't stopped the leaks from leaking. In fact, a recent social media update from a phase five star might have just let the cat out of the bag regarding a major return.

Katherine Newan, who played Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantum Mania, appears to have confirmed her involvement in the upcoming Avengers Epic. The evidence, a recent post on her Instagram stories showing the actress at Disneyland sporting an official Avengers Doomsday Crew hat. Look, there's not much more than this one piece of crew gear that pushes this news drop. It's a hat, and some might say it's just a hat, but we know that it's also a total smoking gun when it comes to casting rumors. By wearing the hat publicly, Newton has provided the strongest indication yet that Cassie Lang will be joining Earth's mightiest heroes to face off against Robert Downey Jr.'s Dr. Doom.

Newton was absent from the massive chair reveal live stream event held by Marvel in early 2025. During that 5-hour presentation, the studio confirmed dozens of returning characters ranging from veteran Avengers like Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Paul Red's Ant-Man to newcomers like the Fantastic 4 and the Thunderbolts. There were even a few X-Men sprinkled in for good measure. However, the Young Avengers cohort, including Amani's Camala Khan, was conspicuously absent from the official list at the time.

The return of Cassie Lang is potentially far more than just a cameo. Though, for all we know, it could be as simple as her showing up briefly only to be swatted away for the big event. That's plausible. And given the emphasis on parenthood in the first two Doomsday teasers, it seems probable that Cassie could be multiversal cannon fodder used to push Scott Lang toward the ultimate goal of saving the world and the multiverse. Though some of us at Screenman HQ aren't entirely sure that the multiverse itself will survive Doomsday and Secret Wars. Either way though, it could very well be that Cassie acts more as an emotional accelerant than an out-and-out hero.

However, as a young Avenger, she does have her own importance, and she proved her mettle already in the battle against Kang in Quantum Mania, and so it feels like a bit of a cheat to not move forward with those plot lines, even if the footprint on Doomsday is relatively small. Cassie represents the future of the MCU, and thus, it makes sense for her to not only show up in Doomsday, but to also be of some importance.

That all said, we don't know yet what Doomsday has in store for us. What do you think Cassie's role will entail? Let us know in the comments. And thank you for watching Screen Rant.
