Reflecting on the Best Movies of 2025

A look back at the best films of 2025 including horror, drama, anime, and indie films.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your holiday season was fantastic and you're having a good start to the year. Apologies for the delay in my best of the year video; my household has been hit hard by the flu. It seems like our kids' preschool is a petri dish of germs. But we're getting through it, and I'm excited to share my top picks for the year 2025 with you.

Before diving into the top 10, I want to mention some honorable films that didn't make the list but deserve recognition: 'Train Dreams', 'Together', 'Beonia', 'K-pop Demon Hunters', and more. These are all films worth your time.

Now, let's delve into my top 10 favorite movies of 2025. These films have resonated with me for various reasons, from their innovative storytelling to their emotional depth. A standout horror film that intrigued audiences combined elements of classic anime openings with its unique narrative style. Brendan Fraser's turn in a sentimental tale about gaming and father-daughter relationships is a definite highlight.

One of the year’s standout theater experiences was in Ryan Coogler's masterful horror flick, blending history with entertainment. Meanwhile, the third installment in the 'Knives Out' series continues to charm, offering a well-crafted screenplay and impeccable performances.

But perhaps most notable was Guillermo Del Toro's invigorating take on 'Frankenstein', which captivated audiences with its detailed craftsmanship. This movie remains my favorite depiction of the classic tale.

Closing the list is 'No Other Choice', an outstanding film that has left a significant impression on me. With stellar acting and profound storytelling, it's a must-watch for any film enthusiast.

I encourage you to explore these films, particularly the indie ones, as they offer fresh perspectives and creativity that big-budget films might not always provide. Thank you for supporting indie films, including my own 'Shelby Oaks'. It's now available on Blu-ray packed with special features for those interested.
