Charts with Dan: 2025 Box Office Year in Review and 2026 Prospects

In this edition of Charts with Dan, we explore the hits and misses of 2025's box office and look ahead to what 2026 might bring for the industry.

Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of Charts with Dan. We've got a lot on deck today, including a delayed look at the past weekend at the box office and an analysis of the 2025 overall box office performance, its biggest hits, and misses. There's lots to cover!

Before we dive in, I wanted to address the delay in this episode. Recently, my family has been dealing with a tragedy involving my beloved uncle, casting a shadow over this period. Despite the difficult time, insights from his life and legacy have brought some solace.

Moving forward, let's look at the first weekend of 2026's box office, with James Cameron's 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' taking the top spot, demonstrating classic Cameron stamina. Notably, 'Zootopia 2' held strong in its sixth week, marking another success for Disney.

2025 offered a mix of box office triumphs and downturns, especially highlighting major hits such as 'Zootopia 2', which is now among Disney Animation’s top five grossing films, and James Cameron’s 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', though not surpassing its predecessors, is still a substantial success.

Looking at the broader picture, Disney reigned supreme among studios with a notable market share of 28.7%, bolstered by its major releases. Despite hurdles, 2025's box office did not significantly drop compared to previous years, sparking hope for 2026 with its promising lineup.

2026 is already starting off better than last year, and viewers are eager to see how ongoing successes and new releases impact the market.

Thank you for being a part of this journey and supporting the content. I look forward to covering more industry highlights in the coming weeks.
