The Paper: New Mockumentary Series from The Office Creator Premieres September 2025

"The Paper," a new mockumentary from "The Office" creator Greg Daniels, debuts on Peacock with the same documentary crew and ties to the beloved series.

"The Paper" debuts on Peacock in September 2025, with the first four episodes released on September 4, followed by two new episodes each Thursday. Set in the same mockumentary universe, it is created by "The Office" mastermind Greg Daniels alongside Michael Kleman. The series brings back the famed documentary crew that spent years filming at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch. However, they have now relocated to Toledo, Ohio, to focus on "The Truth Teller," a local newspaper.

The show demonstrates the struggles of this aging media outlet as it adapts to the digital age with volunteer reporters. Daniels and Coleman co-created "The Paper," with Greg Daniels taking the lead role in production, reminiscent of his role during "The Office." The executive producers include Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the original creators of both the UK and American versions of "The Office."

In front of the camera, the returning documentary crew establishes a direct connection to "The Office." In "The Paper," the crew's perspective shapes the show's tone, leaning on fly-on-the-wall shots, direct-to-camera interviews, and awkward silences for comedic effect.

Oscar Nunez reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, now an accountant for "The Truth Teller." His presence connects this new series with the "The Office" universe. Other potential cast connections include Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who have visited the set, sparking speculation about possible cameos. The new setting retains low-stakes, high-absurdity themes reminiscent of Dunder Mifflin.

Donald Gleason plays Ned, the overwhelmed publisher, while Sabrina Impacciatore portrays Esmeralda, the no-nonsense editor. While not a direct sequel to "The Office," "The Paper" carries forward its legacy through its documentary style and dysfunctional workplace narrative. Fans may expect more appearances from "The Office" alumni in this familiar yet fresh context.
