Ready or Not 2 is the sequel to the 2019 film Ready or Not, bringing the entertaining yet niche story of a devil cult back to screens. Although it's been a seven-year gap for viewers, the movie's events start right after the first film concluded, with a focus on Grace's sister, Faith, played by Katherine Newton.
The film spins a new iteration of the cat and mouse game with the cult’s leaders plotting another deadly night. Despite same writers and directors driving the film, it fails to capture the original's charm. The plot is convoluted with too much focus on devil cult lore.
Actress Samara Weaving delivers a standout performance, outperforming the sequel’s overall delivery. However, the addition of more characters and complicated rules seems to overwhelm rather than enhance the story.
The film leans heavily into the dark humor and action, typified by bigger stunts and elaborate plots, yet lacks the spontaneity that made its predecessor engaging, rendering the sequel a weaker echo of what came before.
Ultimately, Ready or Not 2’s unexpected release timing doesn't match its quality consideration. While it offers some entertaining moments with a dose of cleverness, it mostly remains an unnecessary sequel.
