An insightful discussion with Rod Blake, director of the upcoming horror film "Dolly," revealing details about the movie's production, inspirations, and much more.

"Dolly," a new grizzly horror film directed and written by Rod Blake, is set to release in US theaters on March 6. The film stars Fabian Theres as Macy, a young woman abducted by a monstrous figure, with Sha William Scott and Ethan Suppley also featuring. Drawing parallels to grim fairy tales and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, "Dolly" promises a thrilling cinematic experience.

In an exclusive interview with Matt's Movie Reviews, Blake shares his journey and the challenges faced while creating "Dolly." Blake, who recently underwent open heart surgery, candidly discusses the personal stakes involved in completing the film. Having health constraints did not deter his passion and commitment to the project.

The film, originally titled "Baby Girl," evolved from a short proof of concept into a full-length feature. Blake explains how practical filmmaking choices, like using 16mm film, added authenticity and homage to classic horror cinema, drawing influence from the 70s vibe akin to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Blake emphasizes the film's fairy tale elements, a departure discovered during post-production, influenced by his producing partner's insights. The poem within the movie reinforces the fantastical and fable-like atmosphere.

The cast includes Max the Impala, an independent wrestler debuting as Dolly. Blake praises Max’s transformative performance, which was heavily influenced by extensive research into captivity stories and personal history, resulting in a unique antagonist portrayal.

Additionally, Blake discusses the film's practical effects, crafted by Yellow Moth and the iconic Dolly mask designed by Don Martin, which contribute significantly to the film's ominous aura.

Looking ahead, Blake hints at potential franchise expansion, teasing further exploration of Dolly's lore and background in future installments. As March 6 approaches, horror enthusiasts anticipate a new addition to the genre with "Dolly's" gripping release.
