Just like how Outlander unravels two main timelines, Outlander: Blood of My Blood also connects the 18th and 20th centuries through a mysterious form of time travel. While Outlander began in 1743 and 1945, Blood of My Blood looks further back in the past to 1714 and 1914. So instead of World War II like in the original series, the prequel spin-off's 20th century timeline is set around the First World War.
And as it turns out, 29 years before Claire went back in time and met Jamie in 1743, Claire's parents, Julia and Henry, traveled to 18th century Scotland as well. The exciting aspect of Blood of My Blood is that it resembles the earliest seasons of Outlander since the prequel focuses on 18th century Scotland. Moreover, although the prequel isn't based on existing books by Diana Gabaldon, the show will finally reveal what happened to Claire's parents. Previously, both Claire and the viewers knew little about her mom and dad other than their death in a car accident when Claire was five.
Played by Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine, Claire's parents, Julia Morrison and Henry Beauchamp, ended up at the same Standing Stones that transported their daughter back in time. Meanwhile, Jamie's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, are portrayed by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater. Interestingly, as disclosed in the first trailer, the mothers of the original protagonists, Julia and Ellen, meet each other in 1714. Apart from confirming that Claire's parents were time travelers, the prequel is bound to unveil more secrets about both Claire and Jamie's origins. In anticipation of the August 8, 2025 premiere of season 1, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is already confirmed for a second season.
While it's uncertain whether the timelines of the original series and the prequel will overlap, this scenario seems likely. As the eighth and final season of Outlander is set to release in early 2026, it will be between the first and second seasons of Blood of My Blood. Thus, timeline connections and overlaps appear inevitable. For instance, Outlander season 8 might see Claire and Jamie discovering a time capsule their mothers buried 29 years ago, possibly offering more insights into Outlander's time travel rules.
Meanwhile, speculation suggests Blood of My Blood might reveal Claire's uncle Lamb was capable of time travel too. While the courtship between Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie is covered in the books, the prequel explores how their love shaped clan politics in the early 18th century. Besides Claire and Jamie's parents, the prequel also features younger versions of Jamie's godfather Myrto and the future MacKenzie warchief Dougal.
