Apple TV Plus has announced a price hike, increasing from $9.99 to $12.99 per month. This marks the third price increase for the service. Currently, Apple TV+ stands out as one of the few streaming platforms without an ad-supported tier.
Over recent years, major streaming services have notably increased their prices. Disney+ alone has jumped from $6.99 to $15.99, marking a significant 128.8% increase. Similarly, HBO Max, Paramount Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu have all undergone considerable price hikes, contributing to a 45.3% overall rise in streaming costs since 2021.
Apple TV+’s price adjustment comes amidst discussions on its long-term strategy, with speculations about introducing ads to offset ongoing financial losses in streaming. The trend across platforms appears to introduce initial low-cost subscriptions, which gradually increase, often alongside an ad-supported option, as evident from Disney+’s trajectory.
Despite rising costs, streaming remains a popular choice, but the increasing prices could push more subscribers to tactically subscribe to shows and cancel soon thereafter, rather than maintaining persistent subscriptions.
