Dexter Morgan's Return in 'Dexter Resurrection': Harrison's Dilemma and Batista's Quest

Explore Harrison's conflict and Batista's investigation in 'Dexter Resurrection'. Is Dexter's secret at risk?

Dexter Morgan's son, Harrison, doesn't just know that his dad is a serial killer. It's still possible for Harrison to follow Dexter's bloody footsteps in Dexter Resurrection. Although he isn't exactly like Dexter, Harrison does indulge his dark passenger through the justified killing of date rapist Ryan Foster. As for whether Harrison will tell the cops about Dexter's real identity, it's a coin toss. After Dexter helped get the NYPD off his back, Harrison has come to appreciate Dexter's return. Yet, once the Foster case unravels, or when Harrison finds out Dexter's still killing, Harrison could decide to come clean to the NYPD. After all, he's the reason why Dexter is even in New York, and arguably also why the Bay Harbor Butcher came out of retirement.

That said, Harrison could also come to the conclusion that Dexter is a necessary evil, a dilemma that this next character knows all too well. Dexter's ex-girlfriend and the former chief of police at Iron Lake, Angela, doesn't appear in Dexter Resurrection season 1. However, we know she's still alive and that she left Iron Lake with her daughter. More importantly, it was Angela's choices post New Blood that actually made Resurrection possible. Angela didn't just take the fall for Harrison after he shot Dexter in the New Blood finale. She also recanted all her allegations about Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher, justifying her backtracking as a misstep to her fellow authorities. Why? After Dexter helped Angela resolve the case of her missing best friend, Angela knows that only Dexter can handle people like Kurt. That setting him free is ultimately a net positive for the planet.

As nice as that sounds, this next character begs to differ. Dexter, his dad Harry, and Angel Batista are the only returning characters from the original Dexter series. And right now, Captain Batista may be the world's only hope of exposing Dexter as a serial killer. Notably, the last two Miami detectives who suspected Dexter were called crazy and wound up dead. And while Maria simply died, James Dos also got framed by Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Despite the dangers, Angel has not stopped trying to get the truth out of Harrison and Dexter himself. Batista is even the one who legally resurrects Dexter after finding out that he's alive, presumably so he can be prosecuted. And thanks to Harrison killing Ryan Foster, Batista is one step closer to this goal. Detectives Wallace and Oliva may not completely buy Batista's story about Dexter just yet, but for a keen-eyed sleuth like Clawdet Wallace, it's more than enough to eventually lead to the truth, especially now that Dexter has involved himself in the Foster case.

Meanwhile, it's also possible that Gareth's twin knows about Dexter killing Gareth and that he's already dug up the past allegations against him. The same could also be said for billionaire Leon Prader, the man behind the serial killer club, who admits to having connections to almost every law enforcement agency. But what do you think? How close is Red to getting outed as Dexter Morgan? And is Dexter finally getting exposed as the Bay Harbor Butcher in Dexter Resurrection? Tell us your theories in the comments.
