Last month, I watched the new Superman movie twice in IMAX, appreciating its balance of sincerity and silver-age silliness. Despite the film's success, I found the Superman suit design lacking. It seemed more like a variant rather than the iconic design expected in a reintroduction film.
I began to ponder which live-action Superman incarnation had the best suit. At the bottom is the Superman Returns suit, criticized for overusing the 'S' symbol, an ill-fitted cape, and other design flaws that didn't do justice to the character.
Older suits like those from The Adventures of Superman or Lois and Clark received mixed reviews. They suffered from budget constraints and design flaws that made them look more like pajamas or cosplay than a superhero suit.
More recent suits like those in Superman & Lois and Superman 2025 showed improvement with textured designs and modern adaptations but still had issues like loose fittings or overly complex details.
The Man of Steel suit stood out with its chain-mail design and well-fitted cape, although its muted colors detracted from its full potential.
The top rank goes to Christopher Reeve's suit in Superman: The Movie, admired for its balance and comic book authenticity, despite its dated look.
