SmallHD Launches Ultra 7 Monitor with Integrated Bolt 6

SmallHD introduces the Ultra 7 monitor, featuring integrated Bolt 6 wireless receiver and advanced features for film and TV production.

SmallHD has unveiled its latest innovation in monitor technology, the Ultra 7, which is a new ultra-bright 7-inch monitor. This monitor is a notable upgrade from the previous 703 model, featuring a more ruggedized build with screen bumpers and a weather-sealed body rated at IP53. It offers 2300 nits of brightness, making it ideal for outdoor use, and serves excellently as both an AC and a director's monitor, complete with handles and a neck strap.

The key advancement in the Ultra 7 is the integration of the Bolt 6. This configuration includes a built-in wireless receiver, with the transmitter version slated for release next month. Its internal antenna is designed to prevent issues related to antenna breakage or loss. The Ultra 7 also features tactile buttons and supports 6G SDI for 4K Loop through.

Additionally, the monitor boasts a magnetic sun hood, providing easy attachment and removal, a concept initially developed for the Aerie CCM1 cameras but now adapted for the Ultra 7. While the sun hood is sold separately, it enhances the portability by staying attached during transport.

For indie filmmakers or smaller production teams considering an external monitor, SmallHD suggests models like the cine 7 or C5 for lighter options. However, the Ultra 7 is recommended for those needing extensive monitoring capabilities and camera control, supporting camera systems like Red, Sony, and Aerie, given the appropriate licenses.

Customizability is another highlight with upcoming colored bumpers and buttons expected later in the year. Prototype units have received positive feedback, encouraging the company to consider offering a wide range of colors, from vibrant hues like pinks and oranges to more traditional rental house options.

This new product launch marks a significant step forward in monitoring technology, meeting the evolving needs of film and television professionals. With its innovative features and adaptability, the Ultra 7 from SmallHD offers a robust solution for both seasoned filmmakers and newcomers alike.
