Hey, welcome back to Screen Crush. I'm Ryan Ary and we're going to catch you up on everything you need to know before GenV season 2. So, GenV takes place in the Boys universe where superheroes have existed since around the 1940s, but they're not like the heroes that we're used to. These superheroes are a commentary on celebrities, social media, and the digital age, all controlled by Vought, a massive corporation managing everything from TV shows to chain restaurants.
Vought is also the home of The Seven, the world's premier superhero team led by the strongest hero on earth, Homelander. Most superheroes in this world are monsters obsessed with fame. The Boys is about a group of humans trying to expose Homelander and other superheroes for their true, nefarious natures. They meet Annie January, aka Starlight, the newest member of The Seven, who learns the truth about superhero society.
Annie works with The Boys to expose that superheroes aren't a god-given miracle but instead made through a drug called Compound V. They also uncover the Nazi origins of Vought. A politician named Victoria Newman, who is secretly a superhero, starts speaking out against heroes. Annie leaves The Seven to stop being a double agent and begins an anti-Homelander movement.
GenV picks up with Homelander and Starlight's online feud in the background. We meet Marie Moreau, a blood-controlling superhero who accidentally killed her parents, making her and her sister orphans. Marie goes to Godolkin University, aiming to become a hero and redeem herself. There, students are ranked on a leaderboard for their combat skills and social media presence.
At school, Marie teams up with Andre, Kate, and others to take down threats. They uncover secrets about the school's underground lab known as 'The Woods' and a plan involving a virus lethal to superheroes. They fight to maintain their place while dealing with identity issues and pressure to conform.
Genvy season 2 will continue with the ramifications of these events, leading into more intrigue in 'The Boys' universe. The intense character dynamics and social commentary promise thrilling developments in this dark universe.
