Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Tops Anime Films Globally Despite Drop

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle becomes the biggest anime film ever despite a 75.5% drop.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle remains the highest-grossing anime film globally, reaching over $100 million domestically despite experiencing a significant 75.5% decrease in box office earnings this weekend. Such large drops are typical for anime films, which often have front-loaded releases. The film's success continues as it leads the box office with $17.3 million.

The second spot was secured by 'him' with $13.2 million, a bit under expectations primarily due to negative reviews, despite the backing of Monkey Paw/Jordan Peele. Meanwhile, The Conjuring Last Rights continues its strong performance, accumulating over $150 million domestically.

Other notable performances include Downtown Abbey, The Grand Finale, and The Long Walk. Konata's A Big Bold Beautiful Journey had a lukewarm debut, while The Senior by Angel Studios debuted modestly. The Toy Story 30th Anniversary re-release and Sight and Sound's Noah Live were part of the top ten but showed mixed performances.

Internationally, the Chinese film 731 tops the chart with $121.2 million in China, despite negative reception. Demon Slayer continues to hold a strong presence internationally, followed by The Conjuring's and Chainsaw Man’s new releases abroad.

In terms of streaming, Netflix saw K-pop Demon Hunters leading with a significant viewership, followed by various popular series and films. Nielsen ratings provided insights into viewership patterns domestically, highlighting content like K-pop Demon Hunters and Wednesday as major attractions.

The Demon Slayer success story showcases a rare instance of an anime film achieving widespread theatrical and international acclaim, setting benchmarks for future releases.
