Tron Aries: Visually Stunning but Plot-Wise Lacking Sequel to Tron Legacy

Tron Aries offers great visuals and a Nine Inch Nails soundtrack but lacks plot depth and continuity with Tron Legacy.

Tron Aries is the much-anticipated sequel to Tron Legacy, directed by Joachim Rønning. The film attempts to expand on the Tron universe but falls short in several areas. The plot centers around Dillinger Systems, led by a new CEO portrayed by Evan Peters, who attempts to bring digital programs into the physical world, a concept fraught with complications.

The standout feature of the movie is the soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, which resonates well with the Tron aesthetic. However, the film lacks a memorable theme and fails to connect with the essence of Tron Legacy.

Visually, Tron Aries delivers stunning CGI, consistent with its predecessors in setting a high technical standard. Yet, the plot struggles with too many underdeveloped characters and a lack of continuity with elements from Tron Legacy, such as the ISOs.

The film's corporate-themed story and absence of familiar characters from Tron Legacy, besides a cameo, add to the disconnect. Evan Peters' portrayal and Jared Leto's role as Aries offer some entertainment, but the overall character development is lacking.

While Tron Aries brings forward some intriguing themes, such as the weaponization of technology, it ultimately uses them as a backdrop for action sequences rather than exploring them fully. Despite the nostalgia, the film does not live up to Tron Legacy, leaving fans wanting more substantial content and character connections.
