Toy Story's Top 5 Greatest Characters Ranked

Ranking the top five characters across the Toy Story film series with insights into their roles and developments, from Sid to Bo Peep.

Today on Screen Rant, we're ranking the five greatest characters in the Toy Story movies. While the franchise is known for its colorful cast of living playthings, we are starting this list with a human character: Sid, the antagonist of the first Toy Story movie. Sid treated his toys badly and even combined them into monstrosities. However, while the kid certainly had a mean streak, he wasn't really evil. It was nice seeing him grow up to be a laid-back garbage man in Toy Story 3. Most notably, he might be the only person on the planet who knows toys are alive. There’s a chance Toy Story 5 could expand his arc further.

Next, we have Mr. Potato Head, made famous by the legendary roast comic Don Rickles who voiced him starting in 1995. From his love for Mrs. Potato Head to their detachable body parts, the Potato Heads are adaptable to nearly any situation. With Don Rickles' voice posthumously added to Toy Story 4, a trick Pixar may repeat for the fifth movie, Mr. Potato Head's charm continues to endure.

Buzz Lightyear has come a long way from being Woody's main competition in Andy's Room. Unlike Woody, Buzz is a modern sci-fi masterpiece representing humanity's dreams of reaching for the stars and its questionable corporations. The film Lightyear, Andy's favorite movie, further reveals Buzz's potential.

Woody stands out as the Toy Story franchise's lead. A classic western hero secretly a rare collector's item, Woody understands kids more than any other toy, always willing to help a toy or kid in need. Despite his heroics, Woody's character development is surpassed by at least one other character.

Bo Peep underwent significant development between films. Originally part of a lamp, Bo Peep redefined what it means to be a lost toy, becoming the franchise's best character in Toy Story 4. What lies in store for these characters in Toy Story 5?
