Bottom 5 Worst Films of 2024

A list of the five worst films of 2024 including infamous titles like Madame Web and Borderlands.

Welcome to Inframe Out's year-end review where we evaluate the cinematic hits and misses of the past 12 months. As December fades away, we revisit the movies that earned their place on the list of the worst films of 2024. We've already celebrated our top 10 films, but now let's delve into entries five through one of the worst cinematic offerings of the year.

Madame Web launched Sony's Spider-Man expansion into new depths of disappointment in 2024. Despite its potential, the film suffered from excessive studio interference, and a disjointed plot, making it almost unwatchable. Actors such as Dakota Johnson displayed visible regret as they delivered uninspired lines. This is characteristic of the troubles plaguing Sony's attempts at expanding the Spider-Man universe.

The Exorcism was another misstep, struggling with a lack of clear narrative and haphazard editing. Much of the plot felt unexplained, resulting in a movie that left viewers more puzzled than scared. The film was overshadowed by inexplicable occurrences and seemingly crucial scenes that were possibly left on the editing room floor.

The Strangers: Chapter One, a prequel to the 2008 horror, failed to justify its existence. Set inexplicably in 2017 yet occurring before the original's timeline, the film was a bland home invasion repeat lacking innovation or excitement, making it forgettable despite its short runtime.

Reagan is a poorly executed biographical film that fails to present an honest or engaging portrayal of the former president. Filled with inaccuracies and a lack of depth, the movie appears more as poorly crafted propaganda, skimping on meaningful content in favor of trivial anecdotes.

Finally, Borderlands emerges as the worst film of 2024. Plagued by production issues, this failed adaptation of the popular video game series was marred by poor directing, numerous reshoots, and lackluster performances, culminating in a chaotic and unsatisfactory viewing experience.

For those inclined, full critiques of these films are available on our playlist. As we conclude 2024 and anticipate 2025, we reflect on how these films have set a benchmark for what not to do in cinema.
